Responsible Gambling

Every book we list is licensed outside the United States. That has a specific and serious consequence for anyone who wants to stop: none of these operators participates in any US state self-exclusion register. Signing up to a state programme will not close these accounts, and the operators will not know you did it.

That is the most important sentence on this page. If self-exclusion is the tool you need, the offshore category cannot give it to you, and the honest advice is to use a regulated operator that participates in your state's register, or to use the device and bank level blocks below, which work regardless of where the book is licensed.

• Betting with money set aside for something else.
• Chasing a loss with a bigger stake to get level.
• Betting longer or more often than you meant to, repeatedly.
• Hiding how much you bet from people close to you.
• Feeling you need to bet to feel normal, or feeling anxious when you cannot.
• Borrowing to fund a bet, including a credit card cash advance.

One of these is worth noticing. Several together is worth acting on now rather than after the next result.

• Bank level gambling blocks. Many US banks and card issuers can block gambling merchant category codes on your account. This is the strongest single control available to an offshore bettor because it sits with your bank, not the book. Ask support for a gambling transaction block.
• Device and network blocking software. Gamban, BetBlocker and GamBlock cover phones, tablets and computers and cover offshore domains as well as licensed ones. BetBlocker is free.
• Deposit and loss limits inside the account. Some operators here offer them and some do not. Where they exist, set them before you deposit, not after a bad night.
• Close the account. Most of these books will close an account on request by email. Keep the confirmation.

Gambling should cost you money you had already decided to spend. If it has started costing you money you needed, or time and attention you did not intend to give it, these are the things that actually work.
